1. Topic: differential diagnosis of diseases of the temporomandibular joint.

2. The total training time is 225 minutes.

3. Motivational characteristics of the topic: Diseases of the
temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are numerous and varied both for reasons of their
occurrence and pathogenesis, and for the course of the pathological process.
Pathological changes in the joint most often occur as a complication of
inflammatory diseases and injuries of the maxillofacial region. In some cases, the
pathological process in the TMJ is the result of a disproportion in the development
of the body as a whole and the dento-jaw system in particular. Treatment of
patients with joint diseases is complex, long-term and is carried out, as a rule, not
only by maxillofacial surgeons, but also by orthodontists, dentists-therapists, etc.
To provide qualified assistance to these patients, each dentist must be well versed
in diagnostics, clinic, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with TMJ diseases, as
well as know the prevention of these serious diseases.
4. Purpose of the lesson: To study the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical
picture, diagnosis and treatment of patients with inflammatory diseases of the
temporomandibular joint.
5. Objectives of the lesson:
5.1. to study the features of the structure of the temporomandibular joint in
different age periods.
5.2. study the classification of TMJ diseases.
5.3. study the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture and diagnosis of TMJ
diseases.
5.4. Methods of examination and treatment of patients with TMJ diseases.
6. As a result of the practical part of the lesson, the student should be able to:
6.1. Conduct examination of a patient with a disease of the
temporomandibular structure, with the formulation of the diagnosis.
6.2. To read radiographs with TMJ diseases.
6.3. Draw up an individual treatment plan for a patient with TMJ disease.
6.4. Carry out ligature binding of the jaws for their temporary
immobilization.
6.5. Correct the anterior dislocation of the temporomandibular joint.
7. Requirements for the initial level of knowledge: For better assimilation of
the topic, students need to repeat:
7.1 From morphology and topographic anatomy - anatomical and
topographic structure of the temporomandibular joint, timing of eruption and
change of teeth;
7.2 Radiation diagnostics and therapy - X-ray methods of TMJ examination
7.3 From pharmacology - antibacterial, steroid and non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs (mechanisms of action, indications, contraindications, doses).
8. Test questions from related disciplines
8.1. Anatomical and topographic structure of the temporomandibular joint.
8.2. X-ray methods of TMJ examination.
8.3. Rules for prescribing antibacterial, steroid and non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs, their dosage.
