* This formula is more or less the same when composing a longer analytical response
(essay). You would extend your paragraphs (TIEE) as appropriate to demonstrate
understanding/interpretation of your text/s.

T Thesis Statement – like a topic sentence in an essay.


A message/idea/point of view about what the text is conveying.

I Identify – Identify technique and relevant example


(Analytical Level)
E Effect – discuss effect of the technique/example.

** To extend your paragraph further and show greater knowledge of analysis, extend I E as
many times as needed, according to the question mark weighting.

E Extrapolate/Extend – linking back to reinforce
