Yes, it can be part of STEM curriculum since 3D food printing involves science, technology, and

engineering. In making a 3D food printing machine it will require distinct types of engineers. As stated in
the origin of 3D printing in the blog “Grabcad”, BeeHex a company who cooperates with NASA and
developed a 3D food printing machine called Chef3D that can 3D print pizza, it has engineers to make the
machine works, thus making 3D printed food possible.
3D printing technology uses extrusion-based printing, binder jetting and inkjet printing, and each of these
techniques has been reviewed and has been published in “MATEC web of conferences”.
In the article in “Science direct” it discusses the printability of materials. Tailoring materials to use in 3D
food printing machine involves science and there is different protein structure to consider, it also states
how proteins phase-separated inks may alter sensorial properties of 3D foods. Moreover, according to the
article in “3Dnatives” one thing is certain that young people want to experience new technologies and
may encourage young people to study in STEM.
