10 plot holes in MCU movies

The MCU is getting bigger every year, with more connections drawn between the various Avengers, Iron
Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Inevitably, the more complicated things get, the bigger the
inconsistencies and plot holes will gape. There's already a load that we just can't ignore. Here are the
top 10!

1. Black Panther’s political rethink

In Civil War, Wakanda is fully onboard with the Sokovia accords. As King T’Chala shortly announces
before he’s blown up: “Our people's blood is spilled on foreign soil, not only because of the actions
of criminals but the indifference of those who pledged to stop them. Victory at the expense of the
innocent is no victory at all." This makes it a bit confusing when "Black Panther" kicks off a big fight
in the casino, which causes a seriously explosive car chase that almost involved innocent casualties.
And of course, this doesn’t really line up with the various clauses of the Sokovia accords. () Besides,
the decision of killing Winter Soldier in Civil War even makes no sense with his superhero's version
in his solo movie.

2. Doctor Strange’s timeline problem

Because of some weird timey-wimey stuff, fans have dated Doctor Strange as taking place in the
year 2020, thanks to Pangborn's x-ray being registered on December 9, 2014. Fans have done some
intricate Marvel maths and asserted that it would have taken Pangborn at least 6 years to be able to
play basketball again, allowing Strange to meet him courtside. But even ignoring that blip in the
timeline, dating the event of Doctor Strange as being post-2014 threw a fairly massive scalpel in the
works with regards to the events of The Winter Soldier. If Doctor Strange occurred even one year
after 2014, why was the surgeon named as a person of interest in The Winter Soldier, which was
also said to take place in 2014? It's not as if Strange's journey to becoming a master of magic was
part of any great plan, it was all fairly accidental. Like, literally.

3. Spider-Man: Homecoming: “Eight years later”

Homecoming opened in 2012 during the post-Avengers post-Avengers invasion clean-up operation.
Then, there was a title card telling us it’s eight years later, which means the event of Homecoming
took place in 2020. At the same time, Doctor Strange completely messed with the timeline. The
MCU has already operated under the general assumption that its films are set in the present day, so
shifting things into the future and stretching out the timeline could cause some serious issues with
the plotting and setting of the movies. Civil War and Infinity War co-director Joe Russo has even
addressed the time jump, admitting that "it was a very incorrect eight years".

4. Gauntlet timing problems

This one is a little bit complicated, so bear with us. When Thanos appears in Age of Ultron, he has
the Infinity Gauntlet. At that time, though, he has no Stone, because he gave Loki the Space Stone
for his scepter. The question here is why did Thanos have the Gauntlet many years before he’d need
to use it? This is where fans might say that Thanos was just being protective. However, Infinity War
establishes that the Dwarves were very recently attacked and forced to make the Gauntlet. So, it’s
understandable for fans to believe that Thanos had the Gauntlet made in the last year, while also
still having it many years ago!

5. Scarlet witch makes no sense

The character Scarlet Witch has a rocky journey towards the MCU. In the comics, she is not only a
mutant but also an Avenger, however, because of a legal issue, she couldn’t be a mutant in MCU.
Instead, she is an enhanced person created by HYDRA’s manipulation of the Mind Stone. However,
that doesn't make sense with her power. () In the comics, she had mutant powers that were
augmented by mystical training (kind of like Doctor Strange). But here, she has no training, and her
power seems not to need any ongoing source. It’s enough to make you wonder if the Avengers
could have all gotten amazing powers from the same Stone before creating Vision!

6. The fixed Bifröst Bridge

At the end of Thor, the Bifröst Bridge was completely ruined by the God of Thunder himself. The
rainbow bridge connected Asgard to the other Nine Realms, and to stop Loki from totally destroying
Jotunheim. He cut off his brother's means of transportation to the Frost Giant's home planet. Marvel
Studio worked around the disappearance of this pathway in The Avengers for the reason that Thor is
capable of traveling to Earth thanks to the dark energy and the help from Odin. At the end of the
same film, Thor and Loki returned to Asgard using the Space Stone, however, when things picked up
in Thor: The Dark World, it was revealed that the Bifröst was once again working without giving any
explanation as to how it was fixed. But then, Marvel gave fans an explanation for The Dark World. As
it turned out after he and Loki came back Asgard and with the help of Heimdall, Thor used the
Tesseract to "let the fires of Bifröst burn once more".

7. Iron man activates hard mode

As you know, Iron Man 3 is definitely the black sheep of that family of films, and possibly all of the
MCU. There are many reasons for this failure, but one of them is that Tony Stark makes a decision
that makes no sense, especially at the end of the film. A major motif of the movie was Stark building
more and more suits to try to feel in control of his life. So he had dozens of suits to help him in the
big fight at the end, but afterward, he blew them all up. This was meant to symbolize emotional
closure, but pretty much every movie since then has had problems that dozens of Iron Man suits
could help solve!

8. Gamora’s secret

Do you remember in Guardian of the Galaxy when Nova Corps says Gamora is the only surviving
being from her species, as Thanos destroyed her home planet? Well, if anyone of you noticed in
Avenger: Infinity War, you would remember that Thanos revealed that he just swept out half of the
population in Gamora’s planet, so her planet is still going strong. So, you kept that one quiet,
Gamora!

9. Viking Fortune Teller

The first Thor movie is a bit of a mixed bag among fans. Some of them enjoy the “god out of water”
nature of it, while other fans prefer the more lighthearted Thor that we would eventually get in
movies like Thor: Ragnarok. Love it or hate it, though, the first Thor movie has some pretty major
holes. Remember, we are seeing what is supposed to be Thor’s first visit to planet Earth.
Nonetheless, Earth’s Vikings have a rich and accurate history about Thor, Loki, and other major
characters and events. How could they write about someone they had never met and future events?
We’ll never know!

10. More assembly required

Now, we’ll fess up, some of these are “plot holes” because they make no sense in the narrative,
even if we know the behind-the-scenes reasons that something is happening. And perhaps the best
example of this is that the Avengers really don’t assemble very often! () On paper, the whole point
of the Avengers is that they can team up and protect Earth when necessary. But there are plenty of
times they are out of sight to be seen. This ranges from bad guys kidnapping the president all the
way to giant aerial fights in the nation’s capital. Come on, guys: that would have been a good time to
team up and save lives!

And that's all for this video today, I hope you guys find it interesting and tell us if the list has a
shortage of something notable. Thanks for watching, have a nice day.
