PHARMACODYNAMICS AND PATHOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES IN

NURSING CARE

FINAL EXAM
3. As an intelligent nurse who has high concern for the wellness of the patients,
you can’t help but read the literature of a prescribed medicine for their indications
and contraindications. You discovered that the medicine prescribed by one
specialist in treating a defective internal organ has contraindications for another
internal organ being treated by another specialist. Being aware of medical ethics
of the profession and concern for the well being patient, what will you do as a
nurse in this situation.
I should be the client’s advocate for this situation. I should inform the specialists
so appropriate actions will be taken. Safe medication administration is the important part
of the quality and safety of the patient. This is a multi-factorial system which involves the
nursing staff, doctors and pharmacy staff provide the safe medication to the patient and
help them to improve their safety and care. Patient safety is a global healthcare
concern. Registered Nurses (RNs) as direct providers of care have an integral role in
keeping patients safe. Medicines are prescribed by the doctor and dispensed by the
pharmacist, but responsibility for correct administration rests with the registered nurse.
Each registered nurse is accountable for his/her practice. This practice includes
preparing, checking and administering medications, updating knowledge of medications,
monitoring the effectiveness of treatment, reporting adverse drug reactions and
teaching patients about the drugs that they receive.
