OBJECTIVE: Vertical Integration in the MSIL Passenger Vehicle

BRIEF: The report will focus mainly on the various vertical control systems prevalent in the
automobile industry and the way in which MSIL does it. It will also contain insights into how the
company works around on the Linear Prices vs Vertical Restraint problem and other vertical
control mechanisms like RPM and welfare analysis. We have also planned to analyse the
downstream integration and discuss the concept of exclusive dealing contracts.

METHODOLOGY:

1. The first step would be to analyse the industry as a whole and find out the segments in
which the company has its competitive advantage
2. Analyse the competitive environment and their corporate strategies and how it affects
MSIL
3. Link the theories learnt in class to the real-life forces at play in the industry and provide
analysis of the same
4. Think on the lines of what challenges could arrive in the future and what could be done to
negate the same
