1.1. VAF Server Installation


VAF Applicaiton server works as a service on UNMS server machine.Value Added Function for UNMS
application’ server software should install the UNMS Server machine and it will work as a
subapplication of UNMS.

NOTE 1:

If Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed internet connection is required to install the .NET
Framework.

NOTE 2:

To be able to get the traps from the PNMSj+ servers user needs to set the Upper SNMP Registration
and Group-level trap target of NE on PNMSj+ servers for Nortbound Interface of VAF Server.

Attention!!!

Windows OS language must be “English”, this is a mandatory condition.

1.1.1. Installing .Net Framework


Before installation of VAF Server, please check whether the .Net Framework 4.0 and/or 4.5 are
installed on the server or not.
Windows Server 2012 OS, there is no necessity to install framework since the.Net Framework
4.5 has been installed together with the Operation System (only .NET Framework 4.5 will be
enough for this version of operation system). Otherwise the .NET Framework 4.5 is required to
be installed to the server individually.

1.1.2. Installing of VAF Server


Step 1:

As a first step please insert the VAF application installation CD or open VAF Application folder as
shown in figure 2 and double click on ‘setup.exe’.

Step 2:

Once the file is started an installation wizard will appear as shown in figure 3.

Step 3:

To proceed to the installation, please press ‘Next’. Select the location where the software will be
installed. By default the software will be attempted under Program Files\NEC folder. This can be
manually changed. (As shown in figure 4)

The radio button will be defined the software to be installed for every user or only the current active
user on the server pc.

NOTE:

The ‘Disk Cost’ button displays the disk space that will be occupied by the VAF Application. However,
the value will display the only the space used by the software.

VAF Client and VAFFunctionMenu installation paths have been arranged according to paths that
comes from after installation of UNMS defined with [MNIS] tag in IntegratedMonitoring.properties

file placed under folder of C:\ProgramData\NEC\UNMS\im\config:

 ClientApplicationPath=C:\Program Files\NEC\VAF.Client\VAF.Client.exe
 MnisFunctionMenuPath=C:\Program Files\NEC\VAF\Config\VAFFunctionMenu.ini

NOTE :

After installing VAF Server and VAF Client user need to remove the # remark from the
IntegratedMonitoring.properties (As shown in figure 5) file which is located under UNMS\im\config
then restart the UNMS Server.

Step 4:

On the next window the confirmation screen will be displayed as shown in figure 6.

Step 5:

After clicking the ‘Next’ button the installation will start as shown in figure 7.

Step 6:

Once the installation is completed the window below will be displayed as shown in figure 8.

Click “Close” button to complete installation.

Step 7:

Once the installation is completed user should apply the license. To apply license please refer to
“1.1.3 Applying License VAF Server” part of this document.
After applying license user should run the “Value Added Functions Service” from the services then
user can launch the VAF Application as shown in figure 9.

1.1.3. Appling License VAF Server
Step 1:

To apply the license, open the command window on VAF folder and type “VAF.Client.exe –
LoadLicense” command on window (As shown in Figure 10).
NOTE:
To apply the license, command window must be run as administrator.

Step 2:

This command will redirect the user to browse for license folder as shown in figure 11.

From this folder user should select license file to be registered. After then user can start the VAF
Server.
When the license installation finished, a file will be created named “VAFFunctionMenu” under
Program Files\NEC\VAF\Config folder (As shown in Figure 12) and the user can check the Modules
in the License with this file. Also the user can see the PNMSj+ IPs and modules by using
ShowLicense.exe command on VAF command prompt.

Ending of VAF Server Installation.


NOTE1:
If the license needs to be changed, all clients should have logged out from system and the service
must be stopped.
NOTE2:
If the user needs get traps from PNMSj(s), VAF user needs to set Trap Port=10162 from the
Upper.pdt file which is located under PNMSj \config folder and user needs to register the VAF
server as Upper SNMP manager and the NEs should be added to Upper SNMP group on to related
PNMSj+ and restart is needed for PNMSj

1.2. VAF Agent Installation

VAF Agent is a sub-application for VAF Service. To be able to get additional information of the NEs
VAF Agent must be running on PNMSj+ server machine.

1.2.1. Installing .Net Framework


To able to install the VAF Agent on Windows OS .NET Framework versions must be installed on
the PNMSj+ Server pc.
For Windows Server 2008 user need to install the .NET Framework 4.0/4.5, if none of them not
exist in the server machine installer of the VAF Agent will ask for download the .NET Framework
in this case the server pc should be opened to internet. If the server pc cannot connect the
internet user need to download manually and install manually. For installation details please
refer to chapter 5.2 of this document.

1.2.2. Installing VAF Agent


To start the installation for VAF Agent, please insert the VAF Agent Installation CD/folder into the
PNMSj+ server machine, and double click on ‘setup.exe’ file placed under Agent folder in the VAF
Application Installation CD/folder. Once the file is started an installation wizard will appear as shown
in Figure 13.

To proceed to the installation, please press ‘Next’.

Select the location where the software will be installed. By default the software will be attempted
under Program Files folder. This can be manually changed.

NOTE 1:

If the installation directory differs from the default folder, the software update must be in the same
folder where the software was installed.

NOTE 2:

The VAF Agent sub-application must be installed in the PNMSj+ server machine otherwise VAF Agent
will not provide its duty for some features of VAF Application.

NOTE 3:

The ‘Disk Cost’ button displays the disk space that will be occupied by the VAF Application. However,
the value will display the only the space used by the software.

On the next window the confirmation screen will be displayed (As shown in figure 15).

Click “Close” button to complete installation.

NOTE:

"If PNMSj installed path is different from default drive (C:\PNMSj), please run VAF.Agent.exe then
modify the path on General Setting window." (As shown in Figure 18).

After installation user should apply the license for VAF Agent. For more information, please refer to
“1.2.3 Applying License VAF Agent”

1.2.3. Appling License VAF Agent
To apply the license, open the command window and type “VAF.Agent.exe –LoadLicense”
command on window (As shown in figure 19). User should apply the same license with VAF
Server.
NOTE:
To apply the license, command window must be run as administrator.

This command will redirect the user to browse window to select the license from the computer.
NOTE:
The IP address which is registered for license must be same with the Ethernet port’s IP address
which is applied for connection between VAF Server and VAF Agent.
Then user need to open VAF Agent console and configure the related fields.
After applying license and configure by using the VAF Agent console, user need to run the VAF
Agent Service (as shown in figure 20) from the services to be able to use some feature of VAF
module.

1.3. VAF Client Installation


1.3.1. Installing .Net Framework
Before installation of VAF Client, please check whether the.Net Framework 4.0 and/or 4.5 are
installed on the client pc or not. Please note that the required Framework version is different
according to operating system versions.
If the operating systems are Windows 7 or older version, the .Net Framework 4.0/4.5 are
required as mandatory and those can be found from the VAF Application Installation CD (it’s
placed under the ‘Framework’ folder). For detailed instructions please refer Microsoft©
documentation. For more information about Framework installation please refer to the
Appendix B.

1.3.2. Installing VAF Client


Step 1:

To start the installation for VAF Client, please insert the VAF Application Installation CD into the
client pc or open VAF Application installation folder, and double click on ‘setup.exe’ file placed
under the ‘Client’ folder as shown in figure 21.

Step 2:
Once the file is started an installation wizard will appear as shown in figure 22.

Step 3:
To proceed to the installation, please press ‘Next’. Select the location where the software will be
installed. By default the software will be attempted under Program Files\NEC folder. This can be
manually changed. (As shown in figure 23)

The check will define the software to be installed for every user or only the current active user.

NOTE 1:
If the installation directory differs from the default folder, user needs to modify the properties file
of UNMS from C:\ProgramData\NEC\UNMS\im\config\ IntegratedMonitoring.properties (as
shown in figure 24) and change the ClientApplicationPath with new path which is shown in
figure 25.

NOTE 2:

Step 4:
On the next window the confirmation screen will be displayed (As shown in figure 26).

Step 5:
On the next window the confirmation screen will be displayed. Click ‘Next’ to continue (As
shown in figure 27).

Step 6:

Once the installation is completed, the confirmation window will be displayed (As shown in
Figure 28).

Click close button to complete installation.


After closing the wizard user can run the VAF Client from the UNMS Client. VAF Client cannot
run in a pc alone; it needs to be installed in UNMS Client pc.
To start VAF client application, use UNMS client then select VAF menu. If it is first use of VAF
client VAF will as the Server IP Address with a popup as shown in figure 29. After specifying the
Server IP Address, VAF Client will be able to run.

2.1. VAF Server Uninstallation
Step 1:

At first, user needs to stop the Value Added Function services from the service list window as shown
in figure 30.

Click Programs and Features from the Control Panel window as shown in figure 31.

Step 3:

Select VAF.Server and click Uninstall in the Programs and Features window as shown in figure 32.

Step 4:

Uninstall process will be prepared.

Step 5:

If Value Added Function Service is already started, a window will be displayed and it will want to close
the Value Added Function Service. If the user wants to stop the Value Added Function Service
Automatically click “OK” button.

Step 6:

After Uninstall process, delete the VAF folder from the server computer (C\Program Files\NEC\VAF).

2.2. VAF Client Uninstallation

Step 1:

Click Programs and Features from the Control Panel window.

Select VAF Client and click Uninstall in the Programs and Features window.

Step 3: Click “Yes” to uninstall. If user clicks the “No” it will cancel.

After clicking “Yes” Windows Installer popup will appear and uninstall the VAF client.

Step 5:

After Uninstall process, delete the VAF Client folder from computer.

2.3.VAF Agent Uninstallation
The uninstallation process is explained below step by step.

Step 1:

As a first step VAF Agent Service should be stopped from the service list of windows as shown in
figure 39.

After stopping service user should open Programs and Features from the control panel of the
computer as shown in figure 40.

Step 3:

Select VAF Agent and click Uninstall button as shown in figure 41.

Confirmation message will appear as shown in figure 42.

Step 5:

After clicking Yes from the confirmation message which is shown figure above, Windows installer will
remove the VAF Agent from the computer (As shown in figure 43 and figure 44).

3.1. Upgrade For VAF Server
Upgrading procedure for VAF Server is explained below step by step.

Step 1:

As a first step user need to stop the VAF Service as shown in figure 45.

Step 2:
After stopping service, if user wants to use old data with newer version of VAF Application user
should get backup for demanded data folders file (Data, Pmon, Rmon, Provision, Inventory folders
etc…).

Note:
If the user wants to keep the related configurations, the user should get backup .ini file and after
install newer version of VAF Application, the user should be copied the backup .ini fiile before applying
license of VAF Application.

Attention Please!!!:
After upgrading, below parameters’ values will be changed to default values. Old values will be lost
for these parameters.

 Alarm Log Send Interval
 PMON/RMON Actual Data Send Interval
 MeterCollInterval

Step 3:

Uninstall the VAF Server from the Control Panel>Programs and Features. For more information about
the uninstallation process please refer chapter 3 of this document.

Step 4:
Delete VAF folder from the C\Program Files\NEC\VAF.

Step 5:
Install the newer version. To install the newer version please refer to chapter 1.2 of this document.

Step 6:
Please copy the backup folders taken at Step2 (Data, Inventory, Logs, Metering, Pmon, Rmon,
Provision) to VAF Server installed folder.

3.2. Upgrade For VAF Client

Step 1:

As a first step user need to close the VAF Client.

Step 2:

After closing VAF Client, if user wants to use old data with newer version of VAF Client Application

Step 3:

Delete VAF.Client folder from the computer.

Install the newer version. To install the newer version please refer to chapter 2.2 of this document.

3.3. Upgrade For VAF Agent


Upgrading procedure for VAF Agent is explained below step by step.

Step 1:

As a first step user need to close the VAF Agent.

Step 2:

After stopping service, if user wants to use old data with newer version of VAF Application user
should get backup for demanded data folders file (Data, Pmon, Rmon, Provision, Inventory folders
etc…).

Step 3:

Uninstall the VAF Agent. For more information, please refer to chapter 2.3 in this document.

Step 4:

Delete VAF.Agent folder from the computer.

Step 5:

Install the newer version. To install the newer version please refer to chapter 1.2 of this document.

Step 6:
Please copy the backup folders taken at Step2 (Data, Inventory, Logs, Metering, Pmon, Rmon,
Provision) to VAF Agent installed folder.

Please notice that if port 2007 is not allowed for VAF Application, user cannot connect to the server.
Be sure before installing the application about the permission of the port 2007.

5.1. Windows 7
5.1.1. Installation of .NET Framework 3.5
“.NET Framework 3.5.1” is installed as default in Windows 7. If it’s not installed it can be installed
from “Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off”.

From above window you can install or uninstall “.NET Framework 3.5.1” to Windows 7.

5.1.2. Installation of .NET Framework 4.0
To install “.NET Framework 4.0” you need to use standalone installer which is stored in installation cd
of VAF.

Double click the file named as “dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe” from installation cd of VAF. Below
installation wizard window will be appeared in display.

In this windows first of all the check box must be selected to accept the license terms. After that The
Install button will be enabled and the installation can be continued.

When the Install button is pressed the installation will be started and completed automatically.

After completion of the installation the above window will be appeared on the display as figure
below. And by clicking the Finish button installation of “.NET Framework 4.0” will be completed.

After completion of the installation you can easily install VAF Client on the Windows server.

5.1.3. Installation of .NET Framework 4.5
To install “.NET Framework 4.5” you need to use standalone installer which is stored in installation cd
of VAF.

Double click the file named as “NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe” from installation cd of


VAF. Below installation wizard window will be appeared in display.

In this windows first of all the check box must be selected to accept the license terms. After that The
Install button will be enabled and the installation can be continued.

When the Install button is pressed the installation will be started and completed automatically.

After completion of the installation the above window will be appeared on the display as figure
below. And by clicking the Finish button installation of “.NET Framework 4.5” will be completed.

After completion of the installation you can easily install VAF Client on the Windows server.

5.2. Windows Server 2008
5.2.1. Installation of .NET Framework 3.5
Double click the file named downloaded file. Below installation wizard window will be appeared in
display.

In this windows first of all the check box must be selected to accept the license terms. After that The
