After completing the quiz on

http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/calculators/, I realize how little

things matter so much. According to the quiz, if everyone lived like me, we would need 3.7

Earth and I didn’t expect the result to be like that. From the result, I learned a few things

about my consumption and how to reduce the waste.

1. What would be the easiest way to cut your personal-resource consumption in half?

This might include switching from a car to public transportation or reducing energy.

The easiest way to cut my personal-resource consumption is controlling what I consume and

use. For example, I could use more organic and non packaged food, especially vegetables, as

some could be home-grown. Moreover I can be a smarter shopper and not buy excessive

amounts of food but buy enough and do meal-prep, this can reduce my food waste amount. I

can also walk and bike more for closer distances instead of driving.

2. How much of an impact would this have on your life? Would it alter your day-to-day

routine radically?

These slight changes could make a huge difference on the environment. I think for the first

month or so, I will need to get myself used to the change and adapt. However, in the long run,

this could be a better lifestyle as I am having my own organic food resources, consuming

healthier food and exercise more while helping to protect the Earth.

3. How big an impact on world resource-use would there be if EVERY Canadian cut

resource use in half?

There would be a huge impact if every Canadian cut resource use in half. When one person

cuts down the consumption, energy and food waste, it already leaves a mark and the carbon

footprint would have been less. Imagine if an entire country joined hands in reducing

resource consumption. A lot of resources can be saved and distributed over a much longer

period of time, the environment would be greener, less polluted and the lifestyle of every

Canadian would change.

4. Do you agree with the manner in which your footprint was calculated? Would you

change anything about the quiz?

I agree with the questions included in the quiz. However, not all of us can track or can tell for

certain the percentage of their consumption. So the results might come out to be not as

accurate as it could be if there is a more clear and realistic calculation for percentage. For

example when asking about electricity consumption, the hours of consumption could be

added, or what appliances are used.

5. How would you calculate the carbon footprint of an organization?

To calculate the carbon footprint of an organization, I would need to gather as much as

possible the information about the scale of the organization, the type of resources they use,

how many employees are there within the organization. This process should also be done

consistently over time such as every 6 months or every year so as the results come out more

accurate, reliable and scalable.
