PROCEDURE
WARM-UP
Aim: to warm-up Ss and create an pleasant atmosphere for the class
Time: 7 min
T greets the Ss and checks the attendance. Good morning, children! How are you today?
Ss greet back and prepare for the class. Teacher turns on the video projector and the laptop,
connects to the virtual classroom and checks the attendance.
T checks the homework and Ss correct their mistakes if they have any. They had to solve ex.
4 page 15.
LEAD-IN
Aim: to provide context for the target language through a text or situation
Time: 5 min
T writes FREE TIME on the board and asks Ss if they know what it means. After they give
the answer T asks them what their favourite free time activity. Ss give answers and T writes
them on the board. T asks Ss to focus on SPORTS and asks them what kind of sport they
prefer. Ss give different answers.
PRESENTATION
Aim: to introduce the vocabulary related to sports
Time: 10 min
To complete the Ss answers T presents PPT material with sport flashcards (not the last 8
pictures). T points to the pictures one at a time and says the corresponding words. T presents
the PPT material twice if necessary and the new words are repeated chorally and individually.
To check the new vocabulary the teacher now presents a PPT material with the same images
but without words. Ss have to name each sport they see represented by the image. Ss give
answers.
PRACTICE
Aim: to practice the new vocabulary and the previous grammar about the present continuous.
Time: 15 min.
T asks Ss to open their books at page 16. T asks Ss to look at the pictures there and say where
the characters are. Ss give answers and T asks them to take a closer look and identify the
animals ridden by Harry and Lee. After the Ss give some answers T explains that the animal
is a SEA COW, also called STELLER`S SEA COW. It was a large aquatic mammal and is
now extinct. Today, the term is used for the other sirenians, namely, the MANATEE and the
DUGONG. For a better understanding of the term the teacher could show the students
pictures with these animals.
T plays the recording. The Ss listen and repeat individually. T checks their pronunciation and
intonation.
T elicits from the Ss what happened in Unit 2a (the children were cleaning the mirror when
they were transported to another place). T points to the title and asks: Where are they now?
Elicit: In Waterland. T goes through the picture of the dialogue and asks questions about
what the sea animals and the children ARE DOING in order to get Ss respond using the
present continuous.
ENDING THE LESSON
Aim: to consolidate the language of the lesson
Time: 5 min
T reads the instructions in Ex.4 and explains the task. T refers the Ss to the pictures of
different people doing different kinds of sports then has a pair read of the example of the first
boy. The Ss, in pairs, ask and answer questions about the rest of the characters.
FEEDBACK AND HOMEWORK
Aim: to give feedback and grade the Ss
Time: 3 min
T asks Ss to solve Ex. 5 as homework. Some Ss are graded for their good answers and
participation in the lesson.
