German Bitter Homeland is a movie which can be considered as a turning point

for Turkish-German cinema. It is the first attempt to tell the story of the migration
to Germany.
The topic is labour migration to Germany and our main character is Güldane who
is a worker in Germany, Berlin. She lives and works there, one summer she goes
back to Turkey and she meets Mahmut. Mahmut seems interested in getting
married to Güldane, just to have an opportunity to be a resident of Germany.
Güldane, however, is not interested in Mahmut yet she accepts the proposal since
Mahmut also offers her money in exchange. At first, they are pretty distant but
Güldane has a stalker in Germany and she seeks protection from Mahmut. This
incident brings them closer and Güldane starts having symphaty for him. As time
goes by, they build a stonger relationship more and more.
German Bitter Country is structured around the Turkish guest workers who went
to Germany for labour. It is a quite old movie, released in 1979 so obviously it
reflects the initial years of German migration instead of the mixed atmosphere that
occurred afterwards.
