The Graphic Ephemeris

© 1996 Hamish Saunders

The Graphic Ephemeris was developed by Reinhold Ebertin as a means to quickly ascertain
the movements of the transiting planets over an extended period of time; usually one year's
duration.

The most popular Graphic Ephemeris used in cosmobiology is the 45° graph. However,
graphs in other harmonics are also used. In Uranian Astrology, the 22.5° graph is a standard
tool.

The 45° Graphic Ephemeris displays the angular relationships between the stellar bodies
that are multiples of 45°, i.e. the conjunctions, oppositions, squares, semi-squares and
sesquiquadrants.

The column on the left hand side of the graph is a linear representation of the 90° dial. It
shows the signs of the zodiac grouped together in their relative quadruplicities. From the top,
the first 30° of the graph consists of the four cardinal signs. The fixed signs occupy the last
15° of the graph plus also the first 15°. And the last 30° represent the mutable signs.
(Inspection of the column will make this clear).

When a transiting body is moving direct, its line will move in a downwards direction.
Whereas, when the planet is moving retrograde its motion will be upward. When stationary,
the planet appears as a horizontal line.

Natal planetary positions are plotted as straight lines extending horizontally across the
graph. The points of activation occur when a transiting planet intersects a natal line. Natal
planets clustered closely together represent planets that are in close aspect to each other. It
is also common to include selected natal midpoints on the graph with the natal planets,
notably, the Sun/Moon midpoint and the AS/MC midpoint. Transiting midpoints can also be
included on the graph.

The Graphic Ephemeris also displays the New and Full Moons and eclipses (as represented
by the open and dark circles with the letters "N", "F", "S" & "L" ).

Once mastered, the ability to see at a glance the major trends of a year, (or any time-frame,
one month or 2 - 5 year graphs are commonly used) the Graphic Ephemeris remains one of
the most useful methods for examining the transits. All the stress aspects are seen at once,
both between transiting planet and transiting planet, and transiting planet to natal planet.
