Rationale
Over the previous units I have learnt a lot about several aspects of film. Before starting the
course I had a fair bit of experience with creating short films and skits. This meant I had a bit
of knowledge about editing and filming. Though things like pre-production and the technical
side of cameras I had no idea about. These are skills I have refined while on the course,
planning more effectively and working to deadlines. It has also helped me to reflect on my
work and more critically analyse how I can improve.

Project Concept
I plan to create a short film that is different and entertaining. Though creating short films is
where I am most comfortable I believe that the genre and ambitious nature of the
production will provide plenty of challenge. I also think that creating something in this
medium will be the best to show my skills for my final project. Despite setting my idea in a
sci-fi dystopian future I have made sure to keep the scale of the production relatively small. I
simply don’t have the time or budget to go too big with my idea. I should only need one or
two main actors (and potentially a few more in the flashbacks) and a camera operator. The
shooting should be on quite a small scale, not only making it easier to achieve with the
current situation in the world, but also within the timeframe. I don’t want to complicate
things too much, which will allow me to finish with a comfortable margin before the
deadline. In terms of research I plan to watch films that have similar themes and visuals, as
well as those that fit into my genre. From these I can draw inspiration for camerawork,
editing, character types and a lot more. I will also research the tropes and conventions of my
genre, which will help me gain a broader understanding of the type of film I am going to
create.

Evaluation
Throughout the unit I will analyse my progress to ensure I remain on schedule (eg. Weekly
Blogs). By looking back and checking through at regular intervals I will be able to complete
all the work by the deadline to a good standard. I will also get my peers to give feedback on
my work and bounce ideas off them to create the best final product I can.
