Lesson Goals:
The student will be able to identify and read commonly used sight words by visual
recognition. The goal is for the student to be able to recognize, spell, and define 8
words a month.

Phase I : Once class is in session the students will find 2 flash cards in front of them
on their desk. The teacher will have them take the first flash card and write the
word down on the piece of paper 5 times. The teacher will them ask does anyone
want to guess at what it might mean. Have the students write the 1st word 5 times

on an separate sheet of scratch paper. The teacher will then open the floor for any
of the students to try to spell the word on their own without looking at the word.
Phase II : Once the students can spell both words in its entirety. The teacher will
give them the flash cards they wrote on to now decorate them with whatever
makes them standout to them. They will find markers and crayons in front of them
to begin the process.
Phase III: Students will then be given the word definition by the teacher to learn hoe
to form a sentence that they can relate to. The student will then be given examples
of the word meaning in pictures and things they might see outside of school. Once
the student can identify the word, transition the students into using it in a sentence
with understanding.
