Rubric – Túpac Amaru II HAT

To answer this question correctly, students must explain how the battle depicted in the
map is connected to the both Francisco Pizarro and Peruvian independence. To answer
Question 1, students can explain the battle was an attempt to quell a rebellion led by
Túpac Amaru II against Spanish rule and that Pizarro originally led Spanish conquest of
the region. To answer Question 2, students can explain that Amaru’s rebellion
destabilized Spanish rule and contributed to the Peruvian struggle for independence.
Alternatively, students could explain that Amaru’s efforts inspired the rebels who
eventually won the Peruvian War of Independence.
