Central Asia Video Case Study: Replacement Activity

The following questions reflect the human and physical geography of our region of study Central Asia. Each of

these questions can be answered by either reviewing my PowerPoints or using the textbook chapter 19. Be sure to

answer each of the questions in 2-3 sentences.

1. Central Asia has been conquered by a number of empires throughout history. Explain how the Islamic Empires

(Umayyads/Abbasids) and Russian Empire/Soviet Union influenced/affected this region.

2. Central Asia has acted as a cross-roads region. What does this mean? How did this affect in particular the economics of

the world.

3. What is the most common/destructive natural disaster within Central Asia? Give historical examples to how this has

affected the region.

4. What is Central Asia’s most barring physical feature? What do they not have access to? How can this affect a region?
