NARRATIVE REPORT ON GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROJECT SY 2019-2020

I. INTRODUCTION

The school has been the basic foundation of skills and learning and is the
ideal point for various projects implemented by Department of Education. Suarez
National High School is always in full support of these projects. The “Gulayan sa
Paaralan” is just one of the projects which the school implemented in support for
the DepEd Memo 293, s. 2007.

It encourages both public elementary and secondary schools to establish

school gardens to ensure continuous supply of vegetables for school feeding,
specifically School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP).

II. OBJECTIVES

A. Inculcate among the learners the values of gardening, good health and
nutrition, love of labor and caring for others.
B. Produce vegetables which have rich sources of protein, vitamins and
minerals, and improve learners’ nutrition.
C. Provide a ready source of vegetables for the supplementary feeding.

III. NARRATIVE

The said project would not be made possible without the help and support
of Suarez National High School faculty and staff spearheaded by our School
Principal Dr. Rose Marie Ann M. Saavedra.

Because of this, we were able to plant different kinds of vegetable. With

the aid of the Compost soil that we put on the garden soil, the planted
vegetables grew faster and healthy. Of course, these were taken care of by our
learners like cultivating and watering every morning before classes start and in
the afternoon.

As the vegetables are ready for harvest, teachers and the learners then
picked all those veggies such as eggplant, lady fingers (okra), silk squash or
sponge gourd (patola), finger chili (siling espada), chili pepper (siling labuyo),
moringga (malunggay), sweet potato plant, spring onion, and lemon grass
(tanglad).

The harvested vegetables were all given to the learners especially to

those who needed the most and brought with them at home. Some of these
vegetables such as malunggay, spring onion and lemon grass were also
consumed during or every feeding program for as we know that these vegetables
are always ready for consumption. During feeding, eating vegetables is always
given emphasis to learners. The teachers also benefited from this project
because they are always free to pick the available veggies they wanted or bought
it from the students.

Through this project, the learners know not only how to sow, plant, and
reap vegetables but also know the value of hard work and patience thru
gardening and how these vegetables are beneficial to them especially to their
health.
