The group was having a debate. Everyone was giving his or her opinion
about who among the important figures in Philippine history truly deserved the title of
hero.
“I think Jose Rizal deserves the title most of all.” Mikee began. “He is after-all, our national
hero.”

“My own personal choice is Apolinario Mabini,” Chuck put in. “Despite his ability, he was
named Brains of the Revolution. For that alone, I believe he deserves the title of hero the most.”

At this point, Manny got up and joined the discussion. “Perhaps, we’re missing the point here.
It seems to me that our basis for making a choice should be action- real action. I feel that our choices
should be narrowed down to action men like Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo”.

“In that case, my view is that Gregorio del Pilar is our man,” offered Marilou. “He died in battle
against the enemy while saving the life of commanding officer. Now that, I believe, is truly heroic.”

With that everybody fell quiet, lost in their own thoughts.
