HOPELESSNESS IS REVIEWED FROM THE SATISFACTION OF LIFE IN BREAST

CANCER PATIENTS AT ARIFIN ACHMAD HOSPITAL, RIAU PROVINCE

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between life satisfaction and hopelessness for breast
cancer patients with a focus on the negative relationship between life satisfaction and
hopelessness. Participants in this study were 64 students obtained by purposive sampling
technique. This research uses correlational quantitative method. Data were collected using the
Hopelessness Scale from Farran, Herth & Popovich (Canisti, 2012) and Life Satisfaction was
measured by the Life Satisfaction Scale. Data analysis used was Product Moment Correlation
(Pearson Correlation) with the help of SPSS 18 for Windows. The hypothesis of this study is that
there is a negative relationship between life satisfaction and hopelessness in breast cancer
patients. The results showed that there was a negative relationship between life satisfaction and
hopelessness (r = -0,260; p = 0,000). This shows that the higher the life satisfaction, the lower
hopelessness.
