Significance usage of different types of computer and their input devices

There are four different types of computers which vary according to their size, power and performance.
Depending on the kind of task you would want to perform, a computer is usually the best tool for us.

1: Mainframe computers
Mainframe computers less expensive than supercomputers and have a lower processing power as well., they are the
second in the possition of most powerful computers and find applications in firms dealing with vast amounts of data,
such as government organizations and large corporations. Due to their size and high heat dissipation capacity, they
are usually stored in large air-conditioned facilities. Below are some functions performed by mainframe.

 Banking industries (HBL, UBL, MCB, etc.)

 Insurance companies (EFU, Jubilee Life, etc.)
 Government data processing (NADRA, P.T.A, etc.)

2: Supercomputers
Supercomputers are the most powerful machines ever developed, both in terms of performance and processing
speed capability. They are highly specialized and deal with a particular line of tasks and are confined to highly
reputable organizations such as NASA. NASA uses a supercomputer to perform research on space explorations,
launching and controlling space shuttles to different destinations in space.

 Nuclear testing: “IBM Roadrunner” is one of the most known supercomputers used in nuclear researches.
 Weather forecasting: These machines are used to simulate and predict weather conditions about rainfalls,
hurricanes, and tsunami in target areas.
 Industrial functions: Pakistan uses the machines in highly sophisticated industries such as Pakistan atomic
energy commission, NUST, and very heavy duty industries.

3. Minicomputers
Minicomputers are far smaller than mainframe computers and supercomputers. They are usually used for
processing lesser amounts of data as well as performing simpler tasks compared to the other two and are tailored
for multiple users. However, there are task-oriented; meaning they are specially designed to deal with particular
tasks requiring both a high degree of accuracy and computational capabilities.

Minicomputers are used for scientific and engineering computations, business-transaction processing, file
handling, and database management, and are often now referred to as small or midsize servers.

4. Microcomputers
As the name suggests, they are the smallest category. Laptops, desktop computers, gaming consoles, netbooks,
calculators, PDAs, car sound and navigation systems, and mobile phones form part of the larger category. Their
prevalence is also the highest compared to the other types since they are both affordable and easily portable. The
main microcomputer manufacturers include Apple, Dell, Samsung, and HP among others. Below are some functions
performed by machines.
