I. Introduction:-
Unemployment is a term which is commonly misconstrued as that part of the population which is
not in employment. But the significance of the term is that it specifically refers to the part of the
population which has the requisites for employment, is actively seeking employment, but is out
of employment. Unemployment has many adverse consequences i.e., economically, financially
and psychologically. This is why every country devises schemes and laws relating to
unemployment, as it is an area belonging to a vulnerable section of the population and needs
protection from the state. This study takes up the case of India in relation to unemployment
protection. India having a massive population is also one of the countries where unemployment
is a major issue. The alarming point is the rate of unemployment among the youth in India,
which has been highlighted frequently by different studies to bring this issue to the limelight.
However, on the other hand, the fact that India has a comprehensive legal framework cannot be
denied. This means that the existing framework on unemployment protection i.e., the existing
laws and schemes have to be discovered, and their scope analyzed. So essentially, this study
focuses on studying the aforementioned legal framework and determining its adequacy in
relation to the available numbers.
This research will be carried out through qualitative analysis. Essentially any primary data, and
secondary data from journals, published articles, books and judgments will be analyzed
qualitatively to deliver an analysis.
