Welcome to Mrs. Copp’s 2nd Grade Class!!

Parent Paperwork:
I know that there is a lot of paperwork associated with your kids going back to school.
You probably also thought your student would have the homework and not you! Shortly they
will be the ones who are doing nightly homework instead of you, so just hang tough a little
longer.
Please read through the necessary paperwork and send them back with your student.
Please be sure that your registration/emergency paperwork is up to date in the office. I
appreciate your cooperation in getting everything turned in as soon as possible. Please feel
free to contact me with any questions that you may have.

School Supplies:
This is a question that we get asked a lot. Students need to bring a backpack or a bag
to carry their supplies in every day. Students should also have a book from home or the class
library to read. A requirement for 2nd grade is a folder. In addition, the following supplies are
also needed:

Pencil pouch 4 black dry erase markers

Pencils crayons or colored pencils
Glue Stick

These can be obtained from Target, Wal-Mart, and the Dollar Store and you can find some
pretty good deals on these as well. If you have any trouble in procuring these supplies, please
let me know so that we can get your student ready.

For our time in class I will provide any items that they will need such as scissors, pencil
sharpener, construction paper, etc. You do not need to send these items with your student.
However, if you have already purchased them they may be useful for homework. Students are
not to bring personal items from home such as, toys, trading cards, and electronic devices
since they are a distraction. (If your child has a cell phone, it must be off and left in a backpack
during school hours.)

What to Expect:
Students will learn the following things this year: adding up to the thousand’s place, subtracting
with borrowing from the hundred’s place, multiplication facts (0’s, 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s),
nouns, verbs, adjectives, contractions, narrative, informative paragraphs, expository
paragraphs. They will also learn about plants, animal habitats, weather systems and forces.
We will also be studying American history this year in regards to the founding of our country,
Lewis & Clark and the Gold Rush.

Thank you for your help and I am excited for this upcoming school year.
