POLYNOMIALS- LAB ACTIVITY

1. Consider the quadratic polynomial y=4−x 2. To draw its graph, we construct the
table of values as under:

SNSG/G10 2021-22/LAB ACTIVITY 1 /POLYNOMIALS

The shape of the curve looks like the inverted U- shape

2. Consider the quadratic polynomial x 2−2 x−3. To draw its graph, we construct the
table of values as under:

SNSG/G10 2021-22/LAB ACTIVITY 1 /POLYNOMIALS

The shape of the curve looks like the U- shaped letter.

Fig 2.
3. Consider the polynomial f ( x )=x 2
The graph will look like the following:

Fig 3.
Since the graph of the polynomial touches the x-axis at a single point, so the
polynomial has two equal zeroes.

4. Consider the quadratic polynomial x 2−3 x+ 4 .

The graph will look like the following:

Fig. 4.

Since the Graph is not cutting the x-axis at any point, so this polynomial has no zero.

Students will repeat the above steps with the following polynomials as well:

−2 x2 +3
−5 x 2+ x −1

The following observation table will thus be completed by all:
