Ethernet
Passive Optical Networks (PON) in their various flavors offer greater Fiber Channel
bandwidth per subscriber, with aggregate downstream rates of SONET/SDH
633Mbps and 2.488Gbps.

With telcos looking to IPTV to break in on the home video market

traditionally cornered by the cable providers, PON is an attractive
solution for the infrastructure required to deliver a solution, providing
a bandwidth cushion for the next decade.

BPON and GPON solutions broadcast downstream through a splitter to the ONT, but they must multiplex
upstream signals without optical-to-electrical conversion. This is accomplished through an arbitration
protocol that controls when each ONT is allowed to transmit.

As with any optical network, PONs will experience delay based on distance and should experience a minimal
but measurable error rate. Since PONs are being targeted to deliver IP services such as VoIP, IPTV and Video
on Demand, PON implementations must be tested to verify that they will deliver the quality of experience
required by the customer.

Anue Network Emulators simulate real world delays and errors that occur as data is transmitted
over passive optical networks.

Anue Network Emulators can inject delay in one bit-time increments and errors at rates down to 10 -15 to
simulate any PON environment.
