Additional Topic for Module 2- teaching Profession

Objectives:

1. Discuss the competencies in the National- Based Competencies standard ( NCBTS)

2. Relate the NCBTS to the Code of Ethics of Professional teachers

3. Deepen your understanding on the various roles of the teacher in the classroom and in the
community.

Discussion:

What is NCBTS? ( Refer to the picture sent to you in our class’ group chat). NCBTS is a set of
competencies ( behavior, attitudes and skills ) that a teacher must possess to function effectively and
satisfactorily. These are based on Filipino teachers’ core values and on the principes of effective teaching
and learning. It is divided into seven domains that represent the principles of teaching and learning. It
has 21 learning strands of desired learning performance and 80 performance indicators of the quality of
teacher’s performance.

The seven domains are;

1. Social regard for learning

2. The learning environment

3. Diversity of learners

4. Curriculum

5. Planning, Assessing and reporting

6. Community linkages

7. Personal Growth and Professional Development

Activity:

Read, and answer the following questions: refer to the pictures of diagram and list of
performance indicators sent to you in the group chat.

1. Explain each domain thoroughly. Include why each domain represent a desired learning
process. You may include two or more indicators of teaching performance to strengthen your
explanation.

2. Write your plan for future career based on the NCBTS.
