Setting the line voltage The customer can set the two VOLTAGE SELECTORS on the back panel for appropriate line voltage by using a serewdriver. Do not use excessive force in setting the VOLTAGE SELECTOR KNOB ~ you may damage it. lf the VOLTAGE SELECTOR KNOB does not turn smoothly, call ‘qualified service personnel Be sure to set both voltage selectors to the same position. Bl CAUTIONS ON INSTALLATION Using this amplifier or digital equipment containing microprocessors simultaneously with a tuner or TV may result in noise in the sound or picture. If this should happen, take the following steps: © Install the amplifier as far as possible from the tuner or TV set. ‘¢ Keep the tuner or television antenna wires as far as possible from the amplifier’s power cord and connection cords. © This problem is especially frequent when using indoor antennas or 300 ohm feeder wires. We recommend using outdoor antennas and 75 ohm coaxial cables. The DAT or tape deck will only function when this button is on (when the LED is iit), Video input selector buttons These button select the input signals and switch the video signals. REC OUT SELECT buttons Use these buttons to select a program source for recording other than the source which is playing. * AUDIO: Recording output can be selected for only the audio output of one of the components connected to the audio input selector jacks @ or video input selector jacks ®. To select, first press this button so that the LED flashes. Next, press one of the audio ® or video ® input selector buttons while the LED is flashing. The amplifier is set to the recording output select mode, and the signal for the com- ponent corresponding to the but- ton which was pressed is re- corded. After selecting, the record- ing output (audio) signal will not change until the mode is cleared as explained below, even if one of the audio ® or video ® input selector buttons is pressed. Recording output can be selected for only the video output of one of the components connected to the video input selector jacks ®. To select, first press this button so that the LED flashes. Next, press ‘one of the video selector buttons ® while the LED is flashing. The amplifier is set to the video record ing output select mode, and the signal for the component corres- ponding to the button which was pressed is recorded. After select- ing, the video recording output signal will not change until the mode is cleared as explained be- low, even if one of the video input selector buttons ® is pressed, To clear: Press the button again so that the LED flashes. The select mode will automatically be cleared either if nothing is pressed or if a button other than one of buttons ® or ® is pressed while the LED is flashing. * VIDEO: SURROUND MODE selector buttons Use these buttons to select the surround mode. © BYPASS: Press this button to clear the surround and the simulated stereo (® below) modes. Use this position whenever you do not wish to use a surround mode. Use this position to create the atmosphere of a concert hall ¢ STADIUM: Use this position when watch- ing sports broadcasts, etc. This position has no effect with sources recorded in monaural. © HALL: Dolby Surround Prologic, Use when playing video software recorded in Dolby Surround. ‘© NORMAL: Use this position for playback with Dolby Surround Prologic. This position is effective when the speaker used for the center channel is smaller than the left and right speakers. * PHANTOM: Use this position for playback with Dolby Surround Prologic without using the center speaker, Use this position when the speaker used for the center channel is of the same grade as the left and right speakers. © WIDE: SIMULATED STEREO button Press this button to select playback with simu- lated stereo. ‘The monaural sound is played with a simulated stereo to give the sound more expansion. Press this button again to turn simulated stereo off (the LED will turn off). DELAY TIME button Press this button to select the delay time. The delay time switches between 15msec., 20msec., and 30msec. each time the button is pressed, and is indicated on the DELAY TIME indicator ®. VIDEO SELECT button Press this button to select only the video signal. When pressed, the LED flashes. Press one of the video input selector buttons (DBS (BS) through VCR-3) (® above) while the LED is flashing to set the video select mode and select the picture of the button which is pressed. After this, the video input signal will not be switched even if one of the video input selector buttons @ is pressed. ‘To eleae:—§$ Press the button again so that the LED flashes. The select mode will automaticaly be cleared either if nothing is pressed or if « button other than one of buttons @ is pressed while the LED is flashing. | @ Video enhancer buttons Use these buttons to compensate for loss in picture quality when copying or monitoring videos. © Output selection and enhancer ON button Select the video output to be enhanced. VCR-1/2: The video signals output from the video deck con- nected to the VCR-1 or VCR-2 jacks are enhanced. MON./VCR-3: The video signals output from the monitor TV or video deck connected to the MONI- TOR OUT or VCR-3 jacks are enhanced. © Picture quality adjustment buttons DETAIL: Emphasizes the details of the picture. NOTE: Enhanced recording or playback is not possible on video decks connected to S-VIDEO jacks. @® REC OUT SELECT indicators ‘ AUDIO:Lights when in the audio record out select mode. ‘© VIDEO: Lights when in the video record out select mode. @® SURROUND MODE indicators © HALL/STADIUM: Lights when either the hall or stadium modes have been selected. Use the superimpose function (see Page 12) to check which of the hall or stadium modes has been selected. For S monitor outputs, either check on the normal monitor out screen or press the STA- DIUM button. @ NORMAL: Lights when the normal mode has been selected, * PHANTOM: Lights when the phantom mode has been selected. © WIDE: —_Lights when the wide mode has been selected. @® SIMULATED STEREO indicator This indicator lights when the simulated stereo mode has been selected. This indicator shows the selected delay time. A 3-step switching method is used and each press of the button causes a shift in the (displayed) sequence of 20 ms + 30 ms + 15 ms — and back to 20 ms. 13 Video Enhancer ‘© The video enhancer is a correction circuit which makes the picture clearer when copying or moni- toring a video source with poor quality, adjusting the sharpness and detail. © Using the video enhancer 1. Press the VCR-1/2 or MON/VCR-3 button to select the output to be enhanced. (The enhan- cer is now on.) NoTEs: ny 2. Press the SHARPNESS and/or DETAIL buttons to adjust for the maximum enhancer effect. (When the OFF button is pressed, the sharp- ness and detail are set to “0",) Enhanced recording or playback is not possi- ble on a video deck connected to the S- VIDEO jacks. ‘* Applying excessive enhancing may hamper the monitor TV's picture quality. ‘¢ Noise in the video source being recorded or played may actually be emphasized when using the enhancer. Bl ‘SUPERIMPOSE FUNCTION With this functi n, various operation modes are displayed on the monitor TV when the power is turned on, when the remote control DISPLAY button is pressed, and when the key is pressed, NOTE: The superimpose function will not function for monitor and video signal outputs from S jacks, 1. The display shown below appears when the power is turned on and when the DISPLAY button is pressed. To turn the display off, press the DISPLAY button again. The display turns off automatically approximately 6 seconds after the power is turned on. REC OUT: Displays the recording output, except for VCR-3. ENHANCER display: Indicates the output being enhanced and the degree of the enhancing effect. MON/VCR-3: Indicates that the monitor or VCR-3 recording output is being enhanced. ‘SHARP: Indicates the degree of the sharpness effect. DETAIL: Indicates the degree of the detail effect. “~ A ~" indicates audio signals. "~V~" indicates video signals. @SURROUND MODE display: Displays the surround mode. DELAY: Indicates the delay time. This is not displayed when in the pass mode. REAR: Indicates the position of the rear level control. This is not displayed in the pass or simulated stereo mode. C. OFF: Indicates the center off mode. T. TONE: Indicates the test tone mode. 2. NOTE: (1) Unstable positioning of the text picture of SUPER-IMPOSE Unstable positioning of the text picture of SUPER-IMPOSE may occur by the in-sufficient adjustment of tracking of the video equipment or the noises in the video soft. In this case, adjust the tracking of video equipment. If the noise of the TV program of the video soft is not low enough, nor input level is insufficient, the back-ground picture of SUPER-MPOSE text sometimes gets blue. But this is not defect of the unit (2) Enhancer switch The effect of the SHARPNESS and DETAIL depends on video equipment or video soft. Open the remote control unit's bottom cover and remove the battery cover. 2. Insert the four SUM 3 batteries in the proper direction, following the @) and ©) marks inside the case. WUsing the Remote Control Unit ‘The remote control unit uses highly linear infrared. rays. Point it at the remote sensor on the amplifier when operating it. As Dolby Pro-logic position will not give the sufficient effect to the monaural sources, set the position to BY-PASS MODE or SYMULATED STEREO MODE for the monaural sources. Muting of PRE-OUT The electric muting circuit is prepared for the PRE-OUT terminal, so that the output signal will be attenuated for 8 seconds after pushing on the power switch. So the adjustment of volume control should be made after this muting is released automatically to prevent the un-expected damage of the equipment.
