Brief Biography: Ananda Ram Barua PhotoAnanda Ram Barua was born on 1850. He studied B.A. at Presidency College, Kolkata and became the first Assamese Graduate. He obtained State Scholarship and went to England for further studies in Law. Barua was also awarded with Gilchrist Scholarship. He passed ICS in the the year 1870. He was the first Assamese and fifth Indian to clear the examination. Ananda Ram Barua became the first Indian to serve as District Magistrate in East Bengal. Works of Ananda Ram Barua: Ananda Ram Barua’s important Sanskrit works include: Mahavircharita, Namalinganusasana, Saraswatikanthabharna and Janakiramabhashya.
