Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

To enter into the Teaching Program at Nevada State College, and to continue with

obtaining my Bachelor's in Elementary Education, I will need to pass the Praxis Core exam. The

passing scores for the Praxis Core exam in Nevada are 156 for reading, 162 for writing, and 150

for mathematics.

Exam Preparations

To prepare for the exam, I purchased a book titled Praxis Core For Dummies to help go

over the basics of the exam. Since I have only taken a practice test once, before this, I did not

have an exact idea of what I needed to work on. I originally felt confident with my reading and

writing skills and expected to need a lot of work in math. I also watched several videos online

that go over each section and the questions I would most likely encounter when I take the test.

Exam Results

I scored a 73% in writing which means I am on the borderline of passing this section. For

reading, I scored 52% and need significant improvement in this subject to pass. In math, I scored

64% which means I need improvement in this subject to pass.

Future Exam Preparation

I plan to get a tutor as well as take an independent online class over the summer to

improve in the areas I did not do well in. I will purchase more books, view videos online, and
find a study group. For writing, I will need to focus on text type, purposes, and production and

ensure that I prepare for the essay portion since that was not required for the practice course. For

reading, I will focus on key ideas and details since I did not do well in that area as well as

integration of ideas and knowledge. Finally, for math, I know I need to work on geometry and

algebra since algebra was not required for my Associate's degree and I did not touch on geometry

much in my statistics class. I will then continue to take practice tests until I feel confident in my

knowledge and see improvement in my scores to take the official test.
