First of all, Grupo M’s factories are clean, brightly lit, and
nice. According to Herzberg theory, these are hygiene factors
that eliminate job dissatisfaction but does not necessary motivate
its employees. Second, the company has already established a
social security system for employees that covers programs
related to health, education, sports, culture, and childcare.

If I am in Angelo’s position, there are many approaches I can

use to help increase employees motivation. First, I can use the
goal setting theory by assigning hard goals to employees and
giving them the chance to challenge themselves. If the employee
refuses to take on the hard goals I can allow him/her to
participate in the goal setting process. Another approach I can
use is pay-for-performance programs. In those programs,
employees will be paid based on number of goals done not the
time they spent on each goal. Finally, I will be designing a
proper JCM (job characteristics model). I will focus on the 5
core job dimension in order to increase motivation, job
satisfaction, and reduce absenteeism and turnover.
