You have been given the task of producing a three-minute opening sequence of a documentary for BBC 3 and two web pages on the BEC 3 website about the documentary. How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) Product 1 Media Language — Per the conventions of documentaries, 1am going to use a superimposed title to Introduce the documentary at the start, using a stereotypical ‘chapter’ font to match the literature theme. | ‘am also going to use natural lighting to add to tne realism, establishing shots — such as people reading on their phones or dog-earing pages — to create a clear light academia aesthetic and signity scene changes whilst also adding non-diegetic sound such as soft instrumentals to anchor the relaxed atmosphere or evoke an emotional response. Media Audience — I'll mest the target audience by having three of the interviewees being within the 16-25 bracket, which makes the documentary feel more authentic as itis coming from the same people itis aimed towards. The mise en scene will also help with this as the interviewees are from varied backgrounds, particularly in terms of what they like to read, so it will explore a wide range of representations and subcultures, something that will be highlighted by the books shown and what they wear — from romance to horror, and from graphic t-shirts to casual dresses. Media Representation — Both teenagers and adults will be represented amongst the interviewees, ‘alongside men and women, which might also help in opposing the stereotype that reading Is a strictly feminine hobby. In addition, some of the interviewees speak English as a second language and have moved from other countries, highlighting the diversity in the UK and offering the insight into the inherent privilege of an English speaker's access to literature. It will meet the target audience by having lbright, eye catching colours, such as pink, to make the product seem fresh and bubbly. The emphasis on lsocial media is relevant for the target audience and there'll be more pictures than text so itien’t too loverwhelming for those with shorter attention spans since the 16-25 bracket wouldn't be interested in walls of text. It will ange from more amusing articles about fashion to lmore serious ones about mental nealth. It will also comply with the nature of BBC by being forthright and lconcise when it comes to articles a8 they must be unbiased as a public service broadeaster. (approx. 100 words) IThere will be a secondary page on the website devoted to my documentary, plus an article that spotlights it. In the documentary, there will be a call to action at the beginning and there will also be one on the |website. They wil both use the same colour scheme — pink, grey. white, black — alongside sans serif kext, anchoring them as sister products and emphasising their digitally convergent nature. Both products: lalgo have the same target audience of 16-25, e0 they will be attracting the interest of the eame people and lhave similar aims. I'l make sure my branding is consistent throughout by having my logo appear acrose lboth products and including some of the same faces throughout.
