This is a ballpark figure for the cost of various kinds of injuries and outcomes.
This does not include civil litigation costs, but it does include costs for medical
treatment, Fire/EMT charges and police investigation time. Also included is a
rough estimate of what the cost may be to taxpayers of prosecution, victim
support and incarceration. The estimates also do not include the cost to
individual victims that may go beyond that which our system can provide, e.g.
some victims move away after trauma and some need lifetime assistance from
counselors, social service organizations, etc.

These figures are an amalgamation of national averages and particular costs for
some items in this area.

In a shooting incident, costs vary according to where the injury is sustained. For
example, you will usually survive getting shot in the calf of the leg. However, you
may need durable medical equipment (DME) such as a wheelchair or crutches,
and you will also be given physical therapy (PT). The cost of such an injury could
come in around $5,000-10,000 including medical care, DME and PT.
