Reflection:
Overall I believe that the unit was received fairly well and proved effective. One thing I should
have done to assess the lesson was to have a pre-assessment and post-assessment of the
same questions to have a direct comparison to measure improvement. Many high school
students really liked this because it gave them the truth about the digital footprint in a
straightforward manner where they got to hear from real people the consequences of poor
decisions. Most of my lesson for ethical use of sources was geared towards understanding
plagiarism, copyright, and fair use instead of the actual mechanics of citing sources. This
showed up in my Webquest results with the questions on citation containing more incorrect
answers than if something is plagiarized or on copyright. However, with this meant to be a short
lesson, I think truly doing justice for MLA and APA formatting requires at least a second day of
instruction that would have to be added that focused on nothing but that. Some students found
the format boring as it primarily consisted of reading articles and watching videos, then
answering some questions. I would like to try an escape room next time, so that has some of
the instructional content and practice can be embedded into the activity and be more interactive
for students throughout the whole process.
