There are twelve zodiac signs and 27 stars in ast rology. The st ar t hat dominat es when we are
born is called t he zodiac star. It is said in horoscope myt hology t hat our st ar is also relat ed t o
life. There is an angel for every st ar. The belief is t hat worshiping t hem will bring good luck and
prosperit y in life.
The word Nakshatra means “t hat which does not decay” t hey are t he union of lunar mansions,
t hrough which t he moon passes in t he orbit around t he eart h and is divided int o 27 segment s of
t he fixed st ar.
The moon revolves around t he eart h in roughly 27 days. During t his period, t he moon t races a
pat h around t he sky. The ancient myst ics split t his pat h of t he moon int o 27 unit s and gave each
unit t he name of a nakshat ra, nakshat ras group, or const ellat ion.
The 27 Nakshatra
Bharani is t he second nakshat ra of Vedic Ast rology, t he name Bharani comes from t he word
bharaṇa, which means, “t o maint ain, bear”. This nakshat ra remains under t he domain of Yama, who
is t he Hindu god of deat h.
Krittika Nakshatra is t he 3rd st ar of Vedic Ast rology. The ruling deit y of t his nakshat ra is t he
god of fire or ‘agni’. Thus it is supposed t o be t he source of energy and power.
