Wales

1. Geographycal characteristics
- Wales is united politically, legally, and administratively with england
ad occupies a broad penisula on the wesstern side of the island of
Great Britain. Wales also includes the island of Anglesey.
- The total area of Wales is 20,760 sq.km. Cardriff is the capital,
principal seaport, and shipbuilding center.
- Wales is almost entirely ountainous which is mainly an upland country
with Snowdonia, with famous for its breath-taking moutain scenery
and the highest peak in Wales, Snowdon ( 1,085 high)
2. Climate
- The climate of Wales like England, is mild and moist.
- Annual rainfall varies with elevation, ranging from about 760mm, in
certain coastal regions to more than 2,500 in the Snowdon massif.
3. Population
- The population of Wales is approximatelly 3.1 million which live in
one small part of it.
- Like those Britain in general, are descendants of varioust stocks,
includung Celts, Scandinavians and Romans
4. Major Cities
- Cardriff is the capital, principal seaport, and shipbuilding center. A
marverlous castle is located in the capital, named cardriff castle
- Swansea, a seaport and center of the tin-plate industry.
5. Languages
- Both English and Welsh are offical languages.
- A small percentage of people speak Welsh only, otherwise to preserve
Welsh culture, the government supports Welsh language book, plays
and other artwork.
- Children learn Welsh in Welsh school and bilingual education is
encouraged.
6. A land of music
- Welsh folklore is very popular such as: National Eisteddfod of Wales,
a Welsh festival of literature, music and performance.
- Its eight days of competitions and performance are considered the
largest music and poetry festival in Europe
