Comm Studies General Introduction
Comm Studies General Introduction
The theme of my internal assessment is ' Crime and Violence: The rising trends of murders in
Jamaica from 2014-2017.’ Crime has almost become a pervasive all-consuming monster that
everyone in the island cannot seem to escape. According to The Gleaner and Jamaica
Constabulary Force crime stats, Jamaica has seen, officially, 5208 persons murdered in the
period 2014-2017. This data also showed that Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. James
were the parishes that had the leading crime rate during the last three years.
The purpose of this topic is to find out if there are any inform the Jamaican population
about the adverse effects of the rising murder rate. have on the student population as it seems to
have impacted them physically and emotionally as some of these students have family members
whom have been murdered. One of the reasons I chose this topic is due to the escalating murder
rate, being a current issue in our country and our communities that no one seems to have a
handle on. The increase of crime and violence in my parish can affect future job opportunities for
rate. Crime also affect my academic performance as it allows me to be unfocused at school since
the area which I travel to and from school is said to be a crime hotspot.
The researcher will write a narrative the portfolio will include a reflective piece based on

(explain how theme will be explored in reflective piece). The researcher will also do an
exposition on the theme highlighting the causes and effect with the use of statistical data from
credible sources and also discussion of the challenges faced throughout this research.
