Factorisation :
Every number has 1 and itself as its factors. We
can find the factors of a number by multiplication or
division.
1. Find the factors of 45 by the method of division .
Solution :
45 ÷ 1 = 45 ⇨ no remainder
∴ 1 and 45 are the factors of 45.
45 ÷ 2 will leave a remainder
∴ 2 is not a factor of 45.
45 ÷ 3 = 15 ⇨ no remainder
∴ 3 and 15 are the factors of 45.
45 ÷ 4 leaves 1 as remainder
∴ 4 is not a factor of 45.
45 ÷5 = 9 ⇨ no remainder
∴ 5 and 9 are the factors of 45 .
The factors of 45 are 1, 3, 5, 9,15 and 45.
2. Check if,
i) 3 is a factor of 41
ii) 5 is a factor of 35
i)3 is a factor of 41

41 ÷ 3 leaves a remainder 2.
3 is not a factor of 41.
ii) 5 is a factor of 35

35 ÷ 5 leaves no remainder.
∴ 5 is a factor of 35.
