CASE ANALYSIS OF LA ROCHE CANDY COMPANY

A Business Research is a process of acquiring detailed information in an organized, data-

based, critical and systematic manner. This is being done with the purpose of finding a solution
or explanation to a specific problem and will also contribute to the progress or success of a
business.

It is a research project because its purpose is to solve the issue or the specific problem of
the Laroche Candy Company, which cannot be just answered by yes or no. It’s not just a
problem to be solved, but the future of the company depends on it and for this reason, a research
project is needed so as to provide them with the needed information acquired through a data-
based, organized and systematic process to effectively deal with the problem and make the right
decision.

Since Paul has clearly defined the problem and has a general objective, he can now:
• start to investigate and determine the aspects that are linked with the problem,
• make observations,
• collect relevant information,
• analyze the data
• develop an explanation for the problem and
• implement the right course of action

In my own point of view, it could have been better to have his son Davy to do the research
project since he is the one who has serious doubts and fears about it. I think it is the more reason
for him to find out the answers or solution for the problem. Also, he had experience working in
the company as well so he has knowledge on the company. He can also partner with an internal
consultant who has information on the performance of the company and this will somehow save
money to be paid to the external consultant though having external consultant do the research
will help them avoid prejudiced outcome or results.

Luc can provide statistics on the overall performance of the company. He can also share all
his experiences, the ups and downs of the business and how did he handle it up to present. This
will help Paul produce valuable research results as he compares these with other competing
businesses and other family-owned businesses’ performance.
There are existing basic or fundamental research on the family owned businesses’
performance in the market compared to non-family owned businesses (e.g, Alves, Catarina
Afonso, & Gama, Ana Paula Matias (2020) that he can use as reference.
