As we can see in the above graphs the greatest number of deaths has been due earthquakes.
Human kind has seen earthquakes which were potential threat to human civilization. For
example, in Shaanxi, China an earthquake of magnitude 8 hit in 1556 which led to more than 97
counties in China were affected. A 520-mile-wide area destroyed. In some counties it's
estimated that up to 60% of the population died. Such catastrophic losses are attributed to
loess cave settlements, which collapsed as a result.
