 Vein finders and vein visualization currently one of the most growing technologies
in recent years.
 The main function of these vein finders are to help visualize the veins of people to
help avoid any preventable complications.
 Two up and coming new vein finders are the VeinViewer and the VeinViewer Flex
both by Christie Medical and AccuVein AV400
 Both of these vein finder use a mechanism to project infrared/near infrared light on
the skin of subject to show veins in real-time.
 The VeinViewer is the smaller vein finder of the two and is a handheld portable
vein readers
 The VeinViewer is the larger of the two and is made to be more durable and
accurate.
 The way that both of these devices work is that they both project near
infrared/infrared light onto sign, which is then absorbed by the red blood cells and
is reflected off by the surrounding muscle/issues.
 All the data that is collected from the absorption of the infrared light is processed
and is projected in real-time allowing doctors/nurses to see the veins in that areas.
 These vein finders allow users to see the patterns of blood up to 15 mm deep.
 The vein finders also provide visibility 10 mm deep in clinically relevant veins.
 The VeinViewer Flex only requires batteries to function, thus increasing is its
portability.
 The hemoglobin is the part of the red blood cells that actually absorb the infrared
light and help to light up the veins.
 The VeinViewer can be held above the skin, instead of onto to directly show the
visual veins
 Since most vein finder use near infrared light, they should not be looked at directly
In my opinion this sources was very useful because it provided me with general
information on the functionality and usability of vein finders, and also provided detail
information on two prominent vein finders.
