BEHAVIOR OF PREGNANT WOMEN IN SEEKING HELP FOR DELIVERY IN
MUARA RUPIT DISTRICT

ABSTRACT
The high number of maternal deaths in Muara Rupit District is caused by the behavior of
pregnant women who are still seeking help from the traditional birth attendant (TBA). This also
causes the minimum service standard on the coverage of delivery assistance by health personnel
do not achieve the target. Minimum service standard in North Musi Rawas Regency was 88.9%
while the target to be achieved is 100%. This study aims to determine the behavior of pregnant
women in seeking help for delivery in Muara Rupit District. This research was a descriptive
research with qualitative approach. The informants were chosen by purposive sampling with 25
people in Muara Rupit Health Center, consisting of pregnant mother, midwife, TBA, and head of
health center. The data were taken with in-depth interviews and document review. Data were
analyzed by using content analysis. Result on the behavior of pregnant woman in planning for
upcoming delivery showed that there was no fund allocation for delivery preparation, lack of
knowledge in the pregnant women about safe delivery, family and tradition that determine
pregnant women in planning the delivery attendants, cultures have strong influence on the beliefs
of delivery attendants, there is no access constraint if delivery is assisted by TBA, whereas to
reaching health centers must use motor vehicles. Recommendations for Muara Rupit Health
Center are midwives provide routine counseling, the need for support and family participation in
the planning of safe delivery, enhancing cooperation between TBA and midwives in the delivery,
with the help of TBA accompanied by health workers so that delivery can be done safely.
