Music is something that continuously changes, being one of very few things that stay

permanent on paper but yet dramatically different in real time. Nothing that is performed in

music is ever the exact same, which is one of the beauties that come with the art form. Musicians

feed off the energy within this interaction and communication to create unique works of art.

Music education should be the foundation for not only music of this form, but for the growth of

individuals themselves. They are given the opportunity to experiment and manipulate the time

that they have in their lives, taking chances, making decisions, and interacting with their

emotions. Music invites creativity and helps students find their own path in all aspects of life. I

plan to provide opportunities in music composition projects and improvisation workshops to help

further this creativity. Music also provides opportunities for students to sympathize, feel

emotion, and connect to reality and the outside world beyond the classroom. Students may also

find that with music in their lives, they can understand how to think deeper into detail the

beauties that lie within a treasured and yet thought-provoking ideal.

Music education should also be something that is accessible to all and is accommodating

to the needs of every individual student. It should be there as a tool to improve but to also be

there in a time of need for students. Music is like a best friend; it is there to bring out the best in

us and to be there in times of need, bringing comfort and peace of mind. The essence of musical

culture is also very important. This may look different in every music classroom but the main

idea is to have a general feel to the atmosphere of a classroom and offer a stress free,

open-minded, and accepting environment. Allowing students to have a safe space to express

feelings and opinions, to create unifying bonds with peers, and to feel safe from judgement helps

create this culture.

The biggest goal for me as a future music educator is to include all of these aspects in my

classroom and to constantly seek out opportunities to learn and improve upon them alongside my

students. I want to provide an atmosphere within my classroom that allows students the freedom

to be themselves and to showcase their creativity, passion, and connectivity to music.
