Eric,
| sent the below message to some city folks about potentially lowering speed limits around RPV. We discussed it
6th
a lot when I served on the traffic safety com were hi
percentile rule. Let me
know if you are interested in discussing.
For me, crossing PVDW (in car and on foot) is always a dan venture. | hear the same from most people
who live along PVD. ety ctl glee aoe FVD nt aves ha
frogger Reducing speeds would make it safer and even potentially less noisy - the racing cars and motorcycles
are always the loudest.
Thope you're well!

Ara, Public Works Dept, and Traffic Safety Committee members,
In light of Tiger Woods' crash yesterday, Janice Hahn made an announcement that she's asked for a safety review of
the section of Hawthorne where he crashed, and will reach out to Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes to offer
technical assistance and engineering support to make it safer. A screenshot of the announcement is attached.
When | was on the traffic safety committee, we discussed a new CA study to change the methodology for setting speed
limits, Latest report here). lam not sure whether the methodology has officially changed yet, but | wonder if this is a
good opportunity to re-examine the issue and look at adjusting the speeds on PVD and Hawthorne down to 35? It would
make so much more sense to do that where | live at PVDW and Berry Kill, as the speed limit switches to 35 mph just a
few hundred feet away at the PVE border. A lower speed limit could reduce vehicle crashes and also make crossing
PVDWa lot safer for pedestrians like me and my family who have to run through four lanes of traffic to enjoy the Vicente
Bluffs Reserve.
Best regards,
