Observation:
• Most people think that lower lip piercing are very painful along with rib tattoos
• Most rulers are exactly 1 inch wide
• When creating a drawing that is symmetrical you want to a center line, along with
measured distances

Reflections:
When you draw something symmetrical is smart to have a ruler so you can get straight center
line and equal measured distances.
Pain tolerance is a big variable in how much a tattoo and/or piercing hurts. But generally people
think some piercings and certain areas for tattoo are much more painful then they actually are.

Observation:
• All equipment for piercings and tattoos is sterilized before use
• Tattoo equipment is cover before used
• Tattoos are done with pigment not ink. They are natural pigments so that you should not
reject them or be allergic to them. It is very rare for people to be allergic to the pigments.
The pigment people are most likely to be allergic to is red. If they are allergic to the red
pigment, then it will not stay in the skin. (I didn’t observer this I asked about it)

Reflections:
Sterilization of equipment is very important in this profession or else the piercing or tattoo could
become infected. Which would lead to the scarring of the tattoo or maybe the piercing will have
to be taken out and potentially won’t be able to get a piercing there again.
Pigment stays vibrant longer then actually ink does, which you see ink used for stick and pokes

Observation:
• Skin on the hip bone is tighter
o Easier to tattoo
• Skin on the stomach area is more stretchy
o Harder to tattoo
• Traditional style of art has rules
o American has fewer rules
o Japanese has a lot of rules

Reflections:
Depending on where you get a tattoo on your body will determine how hard or easy it will be to
tattoo. The skin in different areas of the body can determine of stretchy or tight.
Tattoo styles are very different. Traditional tattoos have rules on their composition and coloring

Observation:
• Wait until a tear is fully healed to pierce again
• Wearing gloves while drawing with graphite will make the graphite smear less
• Stenciling process
o Put stencil transfer solution on a napkin. Then rub it on the area where the tattoo
will be placed
o Put the stencil down how you want it on the skin. Push the stencil down how you
want it on the skin. Make sure it doesn’t move and it is all on the skin.
o Make sure the placement looks right and the person receiving the tattoo likes it.
o Let it dry

Reflections:
The stenciling process is very important to the tattooing process
Stencil makes it easier on the tattoo artist to give someone a tattoo because it shows you where
you are going to put lines
When you get a tear where your piercing is, you need to take out the piercing to let the tear heal.
This results in you needing to get that re-pierced or not being able to get a piercing there again.

Observation:
• Can not re-tattoo on any unhealed tattoo
o Will not stay
o Feels like h***
• Keloid is caused by cartilage. When getting a piercing a little piece of cartilage might
completely detach. Skin will grow over it causing a bump. Fluid can build up. Not very
harmful.

Reflections:
Keloids are nonharmful. They can be a side effect of getting a piercing.
Pigments will not stay in your skin if you already have a tattoo in there that isn’t fully healed.
