The purpose of this group is to educate students on worry, help students understand the term
worry, identify their worry physically, and learn and discuss coping skills.

Activity:

1. Gather students from the cafeteria and walk back to the school counseling office.
2. Let students know that they should eat their lunches throughout the group meeting.
3. Introduce self and explain the purpose of this group. Let students know that they will be
meeting once a week during their lunch time for 4-6 weeks. The purpose of this group is
to educate students on worry, help students understand the term worry, identify their
worry physically, and learn and discuss coping skills.
4. Have each student go around and state their name and one thing that they do for fun or to
relax.
5. Create group rules with the help and agreeance of all students (i.e., be kind, respectful, no
interrupting, everything said in the group stays in the group). Be sure to write these rules
down for future reminders.
6. Provide and have each student take the group pretest (pre/posttest listed below). Let
students know that it is okay if they do not know the answers and to just do their best.
Collect all pretests.
7. Allow for any final comments or questions.
8. Return students back to class.

Activity:

1. Gather students from the cafeteria and walk back to the school counseling office.
2. Let students know that they should eat their lunches throughout the group meeting.
3. Ask students: can you feel worry physically? Yes!
4. Discuss that you can feel worry in parts of your body (head, stomach, etc.).
(SYPMTOMS of worry)
5. Allow students to state places that they physically feel worry. Begin an on-going list of
all places that the students state on a white board.
6. Allow for any final comments or questions.
7. Return students back to class.

can implement what they have learned!

3. Allow students to go around and share with the group – they can share their worries,
questions, concerns, and how they can implement what they have learned.
4. While students are sharing their worries, challenge/ask them how they can implement
what they have learned from the group to the worries that they share.
5. Prepare students for the lest group meeting. State that the next session will be the last
session for this group experience.
6. Allow for any final comments or questions.
7. Return students back to class.

Activity:

1. Gather students from the cafeteria and walk back to the school counseling office.
2. Let students know that they should eat their lunches throughout the group meeting.
3. Let each student state one thing they learned from this group
4. Recap main topics– what is worry? Coping skills? Allow students to discuss.
5. Closing activity – Create a stress ball!

- Provide each student with a deflated balloon


- Provide each student with an appropriate amount of play dough
- Have student’s make their own play dough look like a snake so they can easily put it
in the deflated balloon. Tie the balloon.
- Put the tied balloon into another deflated balloon and tie the second balloon.

6. Provide the posttest (same as pretest)


7. Allow for any final comments or questions.
8. Return students back to class.
