According to the first practical class related to perception, I could feel how the distance

between the objects, the people and me were confusing. How the isolation was possible in a
very open space. It was a really weird feeling how perception changed so much without an
altered state of consciousness, or how, maybe that practice, could be another altered state.
Somehow, that disability allowed me to be focus on deeper feelings, don’t paying attention to
the people in the street, but more into the details of my relation with the elements that were
around me, and the conexion to them, in terms of distance, apparience, size, or even
texture, but also including, no less important, the soundscape.

This experience makes me think in the relation we have with the medium, and the variables
of each person in the way of perceiving it. That, is my first researching point.

Trying to know more about the concept of perception, quickly came to me the term
proxemics.
Proxemics is the study of human use of space and the effects that population density has on
behaviour, communication, and social interaction. Proxemics is one among several
subcategories in the study of nonverbal communication, such the interpersonal distances,
the organization of spaces in territories or the cultural factors that affects societies in space
and cultural configurations.

Under my condition of expatriate, the meaning of this word is more important for me,Since in
the time I have been here I have been able to verify how, despite the not-so-long distance
between Holland and Spain, cultural differences can be great.

Most important of all, is that if we can learn and assimilate the meaning of this term, it is
possible to understand the characteristics of the environment. How certain factors can
influence our behavior, and how to use them in our favor, for example, in architecture.

Proxemics makes me also think in the way I approach my space, or the space that I inhabit,
It is, therefore, an explanation in itself of the meaning of the word, and that is why I think it is
important to consider this term.
