 The Idea
An animated short exploring the Complex feelings of removing a
loved one form a position of authority, due to circumstances that
leave them mourning, in order to rebuild what they once had
authority over

The Outcome
An cinematic and dramatic animated short, that uses traditional moving picture ideas,
while also using its computer generated nature to create a unique look that helps tell
the story of the piece.

Artistic Context
I was asked to look into art styles of the time period for inspiration on the look of my film. To stop
the film looking to generic and to give it a unique look that makes sense in the context of the film.
This lead me to look at a few different types of art at the time.

Wood Cut Experimentation
Looking into woodcuts I saw that can be quite dark and graphic, this
darker tone fits with the mood of my film but I wanted my film to have
colours in it, even if they would end up be quite muted. this lead me to
experiment with colouring wood cuts. I liked that style of the tests so I
decided to move forward with other tests.
Early Style Development
Using flat colours with grunge maps set to linear burn as well as thicker line art as well as cross hatching
shading I was able to mimic the Coloured woodcuts and gave me a clear idea of how to achieve this look
in a 3D pipeline.
