PERSONAL RESPONSE PAPER

MARTINUS GIAN DAVIN WICAKSANA

In yesterday's meeting, we began to study and explore models and techniques in crisis
intervention. I think the technique will different according to crisis theorists. It turns out that
there are rules, namely there are 10 basic techniques for intervening someone when in a
certain crisis situation. Of course, each technique has its own variations depending on the
crisis situation at hand. The ten basic techniques of crisis intervention are:

1. Open ended question

2. Close ended question
3. Restatement ang summary clarification
4. Owning feeling
5. Disown statement
6. Conveying understanding
7. Value adjustment
8. Positive reinforcement
9. Personal integrity and setting the limit
10. Assertion statement

Honestly, I'm still fumbling about the technique myself. Even though the priest has explained
it, I don't understand it well. Fortunately, during the discussion I understood the material
better. When a friend tells his experience, then the priest connects with the material being
studied so that it is easier to understand.

The point that I got is that we have to provide first aid when experiencing a crisis so that the

problem doesn't get worse. I hope at least by providing first aid can make someone who is

experiencing a crisis feel calmer and able to think clearly and rationally.
