WRITING BETTER SONGS CHECKLIST Here are questions | ask myself if my songs aren’t connecting in the way | want them to: 1) Does my intro make you want to hear the song? 2) Does my opening line draw you in and make you want to hear more? 3) Is my melody interesting? 4) Does my melody get stuck in your head? 5) Does my chorus stand out and take the song to a higher place? 6) Is my chorus easy to sing along with after one listen? 7) What does my song make the listener want to do? Dance? Cry? Laugh? Sing? 8) What universal emotion does my song tap into? 9) Is my idea strong enough to carry an entire song? 10) Would | want to listen to this over and over in my car? Honestly answering those questions can help you figure out where you are falling short and can help you ~ you guessed it - Write. Better. Songs. Marty Dodson
