The academic skills represent the totality of skills that helps you to understand and improve
your academic results and in extent, prepare you for a future career.
In the first place, we need to see which are the most important academic skills and how this
skill helps us. Those skills are divided in two parts, those that are easy to achieve, like
learning independently, Researching, Writing or Referencing, and those who is harder to
achieve like critical thinking, academic writing, good understanding of the assessments,
reflective writing etc. Those two types of academic skills are interconnected and helps the
student in the academic process. Of course, that if you manage all of those skills this will
really help you in your future career. Why? Because all of the skills mentioned above are
exactly the skills that you need, if you know how to speak in public, how to express your
thoughts in a certain way using your critical thinking, how to write a good paper respecting
ethics, you will be seen like a good prepared person, capable to deal with a lot of problems in
a professional way.
In the second place the academic skills will help you in different situations, because they give
you a certain capability to express your own ideas in a clear and professional manner. For
example, one of my current academic responsibility is to write an essay and to do that I need
to make research, to read things about that subject and to express my own ideas. Those ideas
are a cumulation of sources that with the help of my critical thinking I choose it. Of course, all
that sources need to be quoted. So, what i am trying to say is that after you make a good
paper, using all the academical skills that you learn, you can do also a good article, or a good
paper for your job, or you can write a book, using your critical thinking, your good
understanding of the subject, and of course respecting and quoting all the sources.
In conclusion academic skills are very important for the students in their future careers
because, those skills will help them to speak and write in a certain way, in a way that they will
be capable to support their point of view using good arguments, using a certain vocabulary
and good sources.
