Building Personal Resilience in the Workplace 2018

RESILIENCE ACTIVITY (20 minutes)


 Separate into groups of five, ensuring that people from different departments are in the same groups i.e. no group should have all
members from the same department.
 Select a situation that arises at work that most of your group members consider to be a problem or challenge.
 Using the headings of Resourceful, Adaptive, Robust and Compassionate, identify different ways in which the challenge can be
successfully navigated without allowing it to become stressful or burdensome and so that it can be beneficial to both the company
and the customer.

Examples of responses that can be used:


Not being able to make a decision or making a poor decision

Working harder, longer or faster (leading to burnout) Losing objective perception

Appearing rude or unresponsive Displaying anger or frustration Asking for help

Becoming irritable or emotional Confiding in a trusted person or leader

Using humour to diffuse a situation Explore other options Deep breathing

Brainstorm Focus on the good, what is important Avoid gossip

Volunteer to help someone Keep motivational quotes visible Listen attentively

Try different methods Aromatherapy Delegate Sit quietly to manage emotions
