Hard Work Versus Talent

Ten years ago I was in basic college in Perú. I studied a lot for the exam last

week because through my mom I learned that If I want to achieve a better qualification

I need to strive more. She is a very example! Well I apply her counsel. I studied for

such an exam that depends only on me. I was really focused on it. Consequence was

that I achieved better qualification over class. Rarely do we connect our effort to do the

best we can do or focus totally in achieving our goal with our success work or like a

method to acquire a talent. Sometimes we don’t keep moving forward cheerfully to

develop a talent or a gift only because at the beginning we perceive that we aren’t

capable, or even if we try a lot we can’t achieve it because it is not for us. Our thought

is determined to our success but there is a key factor, that we need to act. We need to

trust that a consequence of our hard work will be our success.

First, each of us has passed for different experiences, good or bad, that have

given us opportunities to grow and learn.Through we faced those experiences we

develop different skills that help us to recognize who we are and who we can become.

We can’t forget that experience nor our skills, we need to invest time in continuing to

develop it. There is power to contribute for our family and community! For example, I

had an experience at school for the first time. I love reading books, it was a habit that

my mom encouraged me to have since I was a baby. On the other hand when I was

three years old I felt sick and sickness is called “Asma”. Basically I couldn’t breath
well when the weather was cold. It was a problem when it was cold while I needed to

do physical education because I couldn’t breath well! Doctor said that I need to keep

doing exercises to be more healthy but I was tired. A day I decided to keep moving

forward through my natural capacity, I think that If I want to do physical education I

need to expose my body through its capacity. I didn’t die! But I learned that even faced

with sickness I could do my best effort and overcome it. I just need to work hard and

move with faith in Jesus Christ. I develop Christlikes attributes as patience and

perseverance Naturally I began to do physical education. Sickness was not more of an

impediment. Currently I love to practice sports! It is an important part of my life.

Additionally, even when we put all our efforts to improve our talents, we need

to be patient to receive line for line. In Doctrine and Covenants section 58, Jesus says,

“Men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own

free will, and bring to pass much righteousness. For the power is in them, wherein they

are agents unto themselves.” Here invite us to put our talents for God glory, becoming

their servants, while we develop it and strive our efforts to be righteous, we could see

how our hard work is an important part of our progress and type of life we will be.

I know that there are a lot of things we are not good at designing or playing an

instrument, but also things that we are good at. We need to work hard if we are to find

success. When I served a mission I was assigned to Parque Mambucaba, a beautiful

area in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Charles is a faithful church’s member. In a sacramental

meeting He share his testimony about his experience learning to play piano. At the

beginning it was difficult. I remember when he said “You don’t know how hard I need

to work to recognize and act with faith for develop it” At that moment I feel Holy

Ghost testifying on my heart the sacred importances of work in whatever that we

choose to do. As Sister Anne C. Pingree said in December 2004, on Ensign. “We can

find positive meaning in weaknesses that are not taken away” When we decide to invest

time doing those things that we are not naturally good at, if we are persistent, if we are

consistent, if we never give up in the middle of the hill. Jesus Christ will strengthen our

weakness. And we will find success and happiness in our work.

Clearly, our determination to work hard and focus on developing our talents

can lead us for the next step. We will receive power to be strengthened in our

weakness. Even if we faced a lot of struggles throughout our lives if we don’t stop

trying and if we keep focused on people we will be blessed as a family and community

we can feel faith and hope that everything will be fine. As we learn today, hard work is

a key to find success in all things and develop our talents!
